Yes — the pet would be one regain and any abilities it has would have to be listed out and regained separately. The mods would need to approve these regains and make suggestions and nerfs if appropriate, but animal companions with skillsets comparable to that of an appable character even if they themselves aren't appable (for example, Iggy from Stardust Crusaders) would be under greater scrutiny than lesser powered animals.
